Where to begin

Learn the Hebrew Bible from the beginning: a free fourteen-day path, the whole Tanakh to read, Hebrew words worth knowing, the Jewish feasts and calendar, and the practice that makes it stick — laid out in the order to meet it.

Everything here, in order

You do not need to know anything to begin, and you do not have to go in this order. But if you want one, this is it.

  1. Step 1

    Start reading

Fourteen days, one passage each, about ten minutes. No sign up, and nobody asks anything of you.

  2. Step 2

    The book itself

The whole Tanakh, free to read. Thirty nine books in the Jewish order, with a short introduction to each.

  3. Step 3

    The words

Hebrew, a little at a time. The alphabet, then the words that carry the most weight.

  4. Step 4

    The year

The Jewish year has a shape. These are the days it turns on, and where we are in it now.

  5. Step 5

    The life

What the books look like when they are lived: the week, the table, the home, the day.

37 Hebrew words, one card at a time

Every word that appears anywhere on this site, in one deck. Look at the Hebrew, say it out loud, then flip it over. Anything you mark as not yet comes round again at the back.

Five minutes of this beats an hour of reading a glossary, because guessing wrong and being corrected is what builds the memory.

You do not need to read Hebrew script to use these. The transliteration is on the back of every card.

Say it out loud before you flip. Guessing wrong helps more than reading.

If you would rather read first

Start with the Sabbath, which is the shortest way into how the whole calendar thinks, then Passover. Or take the method and apply it to any passage you like.
